When people say that ‘backyard farming’ is better than ‘factory farming and industrialized slaughter’, it demonstrates how low the bar has sunk and how little we think of ourselves. At what point did we make ‘industrialized slaughter’ the standard by which we measure our actions? We need to raise the bar so that the standards by which we measure our actions are the best and highest we’re capable of. When we make compassion that barometer, we recognize that ALL slaughter is the same and gives way to violence, desensitization, and the hardening of the heart. When we make compassion that barometer, we don’t settle for violence on a small scale. We aspire to kindness on a huge scale.
